Trick Flow Twisted Wedge 170cc Cylinder Heads
Small block ford cylinder head by Trick Flow Specialties. All of our heads are custom, meaning you can not buy these heads in this configuration from Trick Flow, Summit Racing or any other Trick Flow dealer. All Trick Flow heads originate from Total Engine Airflow, where we have worked together to come up with a custom valve train that can not be bought anywhere else on Trick flow cylinder heads.
The differences between our TEA / Fordstrokers cylinder heads is in the valve springs, valve locks, retainers and seals.
When you purchase a set of trick flow heads from any trick flow dealer, summit racing or trick flow themselves, they come with a standard 1.460 or 1.470 hydraulic roller spring. While this is ok, spring technology has come light years in the last 5 years and there are much better valve spring options today. Fordstrokers prepped trick flow heads such as the twisted wedge heads, of all sizes come standard with the following.

The above valvetrain is capable to handle nearly any hyd roller camshaft thrown at it. We also have upgrades available, such as stronger springs, titanium retainer.
If you are price shopping, keep in mind the valvetrain you will get on your trick flow heads elsewhere will be signifigantly different than ours, this is why our pricing tends to be higher. Quality comes at a price, do it right the first time!
Trick Flow® patented Twisted Wedge® 170 performance aluminum cylinder heads feature Trick Flow® revolutionary "twisted wedge" combustion chambers to build more mid-range and top-end power without sacrificing bottom-end torque. Here's how it works: Trick Flow® engineers rotated the valves and moved them over the center of the cylinder bores. This optimizes the valve angles and the combustion chamber shape to dramatically boost airflow and allow for more complete combustion of the air/fuel charge. And unlike other brands, Trick Flow® Twisted Wedge® heads are the only aftermarket heads that can run 2.020 in./1.600 in. valves with stock, unmodified pistons and performance camshafts up to 0.550 in. lift.
The Twisted Wedge® series heads are built for heavy-duty use, too. They have 0.560 in. thick combustion chamber walls and fire decks for added strength without a loss of cooling capacity, plus additional support risers in the water jackets for increased head gasket integrity. The Twisted Wedge® 170 heads are designed as a performance replacement for stock Ford heads and are 50-state emissions-legal on 1996 and earlier 289, 302, and 351W Fords (CARB E.O. number D-369-12). All Twisted Wedge® series heads work with most OEM and aftermarket intake and exhaust manifolds/headers. The heads come fully assembled and ready-to install right out of the box with stainless steel valves (intakes are backcut for improved flow), valve springs, locks, retainers, ARP rocker studs, and guideplates. Bare cylinder head castings are also available.
